DeKalb Community Service Board (CSB), a public nonprofit provider of mental health, developmental disabilities and addiction services, welcomes its newest board members, City of Decatur resident Meredith McCoy and Dunwoody resident Sam Verniero. Meredith and Sam were recently appointed to the DeKalb CSB board by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners. They also joined the Brighter DeKalb Foundation board of directors, a nonprofit organization created to help support the DeKalb CSB’s programs and services.

Meredith McCoyd

Meredith joins the board with more than 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. During her undergraduate studies at Georgia State University, she took an interest in pharmaceuticals and pursued a career in the field. She is the 2006 honoree of Health Strategies Group’s “Best Sales Representative Award” and Abbott Laboratories’ “Abbott PPD Values Achievement Award.”

Born and raised in DeKalb County, she is a third generation county resident who first connected with DeKalb CSB as a 16-year-old volunteer. During her career she has called on the agency in both a professional and personal capacity for assistance and guidance for family members with developmental disabilities.

“DeKalb CSB goes above and beyond in treating clients and ensures the best quality of service to those that treat with no judgment and the same level of care to all they provide services for,” she said. “I have a lot of respect for the stellar work they do within our local community, and I am excited to be on board.”

Meredith feels as though she’s come full circle, from teen volunteer to a successful career as pharmaceutical representative and from building relationships with DeKalb CSB to her recent board appointment. She lives in the City of Decatur with her family.

Sam Verniero

Sam dedicates a lot of his time to volunteering in the DeKalb community. In 2013, he was appointed as a board member to the City of Dunwoody’s Community Council, and was re-elected to serve another term as First Vice President with the Dunwoody North Civic Association.  Sam is also a nominee of DeSales University Alumni’s Honor Roll of Philanthropy and Service which recognizes significant volunteer contributions.  In 2012, he was nominated and awarded in the state of Georgia as “Local Hero Nominee Sunshine Week” by sunshineweek.org, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the American Society of News Editors.  He is also a previous recipient of the Life Saving Award.

Sam said, “This is a  unique opportunity to serve the DeKalb CSB.  I know the importance of behavioral health and the service DeKalb CSB provides to those in need.”

Through his education in business management and administration and post graduate work in Psychology/Behavioral Analysis and Divinity, Sam is confident that his experience  “assures a foundation of success facilitating and fulfilling the DeKalb CSB mission.”
